Louisiana High School Speech League

The LHSSL is dedicated to promoting and providing for speech and debate education in secondary schools in Louisiana.

The league sanctions speech and debate tournaments throughout the school year.  These tournaments are hosted by members or affiliates.  Those who wish to attend individual tournaments need to contact the specific tournament director.  A calendar of sanctioned tournaments is available on our Sanctioned Tournaments page.

The league also conducts a State Championship tournament in the Spring.  Students from member schools qualify for the State Tournament of Champions by placing in the top three or four at a LHSSL sanctioned tournament.  Specific rules for qualifying are available in the LHSSL Manual.  Those and other downloads are available on the downloads page.

The league is open to any public, private, parochial, and independent school in Louisiana for students in Grades 9-12.  For membership information, contact Scott Johnstone (President) or Norma Harman  (Executive Secretary).
