It is time to start making plans for TOC.  Lisa has forwarded the following information to me re: accommodations.  She has reserved a block of rooms and meeting rooms at the Baymont Inn & Suites (formerly Hampton Inn) on MacArthur Drive.  The rooms are booked under the LHSSL name and will be held until Wednesday, March 17th. There is no flat rate option, you might want to ask about that when you call.  There are several new motels along MacArthur Drive that do not offer meeting rooms.  Also, there is a LaQuinta and a Hampton Inn on I-49.  The distance from I-49 to ASH will require only a 10 min drive.

We now have an accurate membership list of those schools who have submitted ALL information and dues payments for 2009-10.  If your school is not listed, please contact Kathy Judice ASAP so that your students can participate in TOC.  All forms and checks must be submitted before you are qualified for membership.  Schools may submit membership forms/checks through February although it is now too late to submit intentions to host a tournament this year.  The new directory is available on either the "Membership List" page or here.

We have a permanent calendar ready for download.  We would encourage you to do so as there have been many changes.  The download version offers details about events being offered as well as tournament dates.  The calendar can be downloaded here or from the LHSSL Tournaments page.

Remember to pay your Lafayette District CFL dues of $40.00 and turn in your school membership form by Nov 6th.  The sooner, the better!  The form can be found on the www.NCFL.org  website.  If you have questions, call Sandra Broussard at (337)984-5125 before 7:05AM or after 12:30PM.  Sandra is happy to answer any questions you have.  CFL membership allows you to compete at district and to qualify for CFL nationals in the Spring.

Public Forum Debate will be offered at TOC, 2010, with two stipulations: 1) Each school will have two free entries (there is no "qualified" status in PF) for PF; 2) Points for PF will not be counted for Sweepstakes consideration. For those hosting tournaments, there is a new ballot for Public Forum Debate.

LHSSL has approved the use of computers in Extemporaneous speaking.  The rules are specific and failure to follow rules will result in disqualification.  Be sure to download, study, and go over with your extempers. Tournament directors reserve the right to refuse the use of computers as indicated in the tournament invitation.

Melba LaCaze and Kathy Judice have announced the following (Posted August 23, 2009)

The Fall Coaches' Meeting was held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 22nd, at Catholic High in Baton Rouge.  Information letter and membership forms are still available.  Remember that you must resubmit ALL registration forms annually along with annual dues by September 10th.    Forms for hosting a tournament must be submitted to Kathy Judice by September 10th even if you submitted information about your tournament in the Spring.

Melba LaCaze has announced the following (Posted August 28 , 2009)

Important Reminder
:  Tournament directors have two weeks from the end of a tournament to submit a tournament report to LHSSL.  You may use the OTRS online, mail results, or e-mail attached results.  Failure to report results interferes with TOC qualifying therefore all results must be submitted on time.  Failure to report will result in the host school neither being allowed to participate in TOC this year nor to host a sanctioned tournament the next year. ALL results should include the number of teams/individuals competing in an event, out-of-state schools should be clearly indicated, and first and last names of winners are required.  We cannot accept results that are last names only.  If there is a problem with reporting, you should call Melba or Lisa asap.

Kathy Judice has announced the following (Posted August 12, 2009)

All membership forms and tournament notice is due to her no later than September 10th.  Your membership must be accompanied by the Principal's signature and a $40.00 membership fee.

Reminder:  If you are hosting a tournament and would like your invitation to appear on the web, please e-mail it as a Word doc to Melba or to the website. Please make every effort to send invitations as one document, rather than as 2, 3, or 4 documents.  It makes our job much easier at this end and you are less likely to encounter mistakes in the posting of your invitation.
