INTRODUCING Tournament Manager for the PC and Mac
In 1995, I designed a database to manage the entries, finances, and pre-tournament forms for the Clark High School speech and debate tournament in San Antonio, Texas. In 1996, I modified the database for the Newman Invitational when I moved to New Orleans. In April 2000, I modified it again in order to accommodate any speech and debate tournament. It is capable of handling up to 25 individual events, 6 team speech events, 4 team debate events, and 4 LD debate events. A fairly complete manual (MS Word document) is available as well. The database will do the following:
Calculate entry fees, drop fees, and judge fees
Allow for entry of selection titles, if known
Print Labels with cross entries and selection titles (if entered)
Print Confirmation Letters
Print School Lists
Print Events Lists
Allow for manual entry of contestant codes and debate entry codes
Print Tab Sheets (contestant names with grid lines to enter round by round
results)
Print Prepared Receipts, with school names, codes, and amount due
Print Registration Sheets to aid schools in confirming their entry and charges
Allow for entry of Judge Assignments by Round
Print Judge Assignments Sheets to be given to Judges
Print Pools of Judges by Round
Print Judge Labels to allow for assignments by hand
This is intended to only be a pre-tournament database. It will not pair a debate event or section/panel a speech event. However, you can get a printout that will make data entry into a Tab Room program, such as TRPC or TRIEPC (written by Rich Edwards of Baylor University). You can also get all the printouts that will help you run your tournament by hand. If you want to download Rich's tab room programs, just click the link:

page before you begin)
1. When you click the file name below, your browser will ask
you where you want the file to be saved. You should save it to a drive,
rather than open it immediately. This can go anywhere on your
computer since it will only be the compacted version of the database. PCs
may default to putting a download in the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Macs
will likely default to a Downloads folder associated with your web browser.
With either operating system, you may have changed the defaults to where
downloads go. Hopefully, you can find it. If you can't, then you may
have to search your drive after the download is complete. You are looking
for a file called "TournMgr".
2A. Extraction for PCs: First, you need to find where on your computer the download has been saved. The file name is "TournMgr.exe". Double click on the icon. You will be asked where to extract these files. The default is C:\Windows\Temp. I would CHANGE it to C:\Tournament Manager. This will create a folder called "Tournament Manager" on your C drive. When the path is set, click "unzip". After it's done, you may close Unzip Self-Extractor.
2B. Extraction for Macs: Create a folder first, maybe on your desktop or on the hard drive entitled "Tournament Manager." Double click on the TournMgr icon that was just downloaded and select the Tournament Manager folder. When selected, click "extract". After that, you may close the Aladdin Self-Extractor. It may close automatically. Some browsers will try to extract the file automatically after it's been downloaded. If that happens, be sure you can find it.
3. Inside the Tournament Manager Folder, you will now find a small number of other files. The only one you need to open directly is "TRN MGR.exe." for PCs and "TRN MGR" for Macs However, ALL of the other files are necessary for successful operation for the database.
4. Give me feedback as you use the database. Call me, fax me, email me - whatever. Also let me know if you have problems with the download or extraction.
